கலித்தொகை காட்டும் அறநெறி (Morality in Kalithogai)

Abstract

Kalithogai, a Sangam Literature, is one of the best Tamil literatures that discuss honour and ethics. Even though Kalithogai discusses external topics like theft and chastity of the ancient Tamilians, it also portrays their ethics and honour. This made the scholars denoting Kalithogai as “'கற்றறிந்தோர் ஏத்தும் கலி means kalithogai which is praised by great scholars. The purpose of this article is to identify how the ethics were used in Kalithogai. This research also aims to identify the frequency in which ethics are discussed in this literature and the type of ethics that have been described. Hence, this research will have a qualitative nature. This study is entirely based on library research. The primary data was obtained from Kalithogai, and the secondary data were obtained from existing studies, research papers and commentaries. All data were collected for purposes of the study and were used according to the aim of the study. Based on the study, it was found that Kalithogai which discusses ancient Tamilians’ external life like theft and chastity features the essence of basic ethics of such life. Some of the ethics in Kalithogai are repeated with different illustrations and explanations. In general, texts containing ethical comments are numerous in Tamil literature, yet Kalithogai has a unique way of explaining it which makes it an interesting read. In a nutshell, all aspects of the ethical life of mankind were discussed in Kalithogai.

ஆய்வுச் சுருக்கம்:

அறம் போற்றும் சிறந்த தமிழ் இலக்கியங்களுள் சங்க இலக்கியத்தைச் சார்ந்த கலித்தொகையும் ஒன்று. அகப்பொருளைப் பாடி நிற்கும் கலித்தொகைப் பாடல்கள் முழுதும் பண்டைத் தமிழரின் களவு, கற்பு வாழ்க்கையைப் பாடுவனவாக இருப்பினும், அறநெறிக் கருத்துரைகளும் குறைவில்லாது பாடல்களினூடே இடம்பெற்றுள்ளதைக் காணலாம். இதன் பொருட்டே கலித்தொகையைக் 'கற்றறிந்தோர் ஏத்தும் கலி', கல்விவலார் கண்ட கலி' என்றெல்லாம் அறிஞர் பகர்வர். இச்சிந்தனையின் அடிப்படையிலே வாழ்வைச் செம்மையுறச் செய்யும் அறநெறிகள் எவ்வாறு கலித்தொகை பாடல்களில் அமையப் பெற்றுள்ளன என்பதனை ஆய்வின் அடிப்படையில் எடுத்துரைப்பதே இக்கட்டுரையின் நோக்கமாக அமைகிறது. கலித்தொகையில் இடம்பெற்றுள்ள அறநெறிகளின் அளவு நிலையையும் பண்பு நிலையையும் இனங்காணும் நோக்கில் நடத்தப்படும் இவ்வாய்வு முழுதும் பண்புசார் ஆய்வாகவே (qualitative research) அமையப் பெறுகின்றது. இவ்வாய்வு முழுமையும் நூலக ஆய்வாக மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டுள்ளது. முதலாம் நிலை தரவுகள் யாவும் கலித்தொகையின் மூலத்தைச் சார்ந்தவற்றிலிருந்தும், இரண்டாம் நிலை தரவுகள் அனைத்தும் கலித்தொகை மற்றும் அறநெறி குறித்து இதுவரையில் எழுந்துள்ள ஆய்வுகள், ஆய்வுக்கட்டுரைகள், விளக்கவுரைகள் ஆகியவற்றிலிருந்து பெறப்பட்டன. சேகரிக்கப்பட்ட தரவுகள் யாவும் ஆய்வு நோக்கத்திற்கு ஏற்றவாறு பகுப்பிக்கப்பட்டு ஆய்வுக்கு உட்படுத்தப்பட்டன. பண்டைத் தமிழர்தம் களவு, கற்பு எனும் அகவாழ்வைப் பாடும் கலித்தொகையில் அவ்வாழ்க்கைநெறிக்கு அடிப்படையாக விளங்கும் அறநெறிகள் அனைத்தும் சாரமாக இடம்பெற்றுள்ளதை ஆய்வின் வழி அறியமுடிகின்றது. சில அறநெறிகள் மீண்டும் மீண்டும் கலித்தொகையில் வெவ்வேறு உவமைகளுடன் விளக்கங்களுடனும் இடம்பெற்றுள்ள பாங்கினையும் கலித்தொகையில் காண முடிகின்றது. பொதுவில் அறக்கருத்துகளைத் தாங்கிய நீதிநூல்கள் பல தமிழ் இலக்கியங்களிலே உண்டென்றபோதிலும் அவற்றைச் சுவையுறவும் உணர்வைத் தொடும் வகையிலும் எடுத்துரைப்பதில் கலித்தொகை தனித்தொளிர்வதை அடையாளம் காண முடிகின்றது. மனிதகுலத்துக்குரிய அறம்சார்ந்த வாழ்க்கையின்  அனைத்துப் பகுதிகளையும் தொட்டு கலித்தொகை கருத்தாடல் நிகழ்த்தியிருப்பது இவ்வாய்வின் கருத்து முடிபாகும்.
