Aspect of hunger in Manimegalai

Abstract

This journal serves to narrow down on the aspect of hunger that discussed in   Manimegalai epic. Hunger is a universal issue that is faced by nearly all countries worldwide. The Manimegalai epic classifies hunger as disease that must be cured. It further discusses the effects of hunger on a person. So, whoever helps to end someone’s hunger is looked up to as ‘God’ by someone who is in poverty. The Manimegalai epic stresses that all human in this world must strive to end the impoverished people’s and the disabled’s hunger. This epic tries to implement the current issue through the characters in the epic such as Manimegalai and Aaputhiran. Both of them sacrificed their lives to help end the hunger of those in poverty. A hungry human will lose his mental faculties. Therefore they will be enticed to commit social problems to satisfy their hunger. To avoid this problem from worsening, Manimegalai, the main character in the epic took steps to eradicate the inmate’s hunger. After that, Manimegalai advised them to lead a life dedicated to worshipping God. In this effort, Manimegalai successfully transformed every prison in the city of Puhar into multipurpose hall. This shows the superiority of her actions that changed the lives of inmates. Moreover, this article also discuss about the Tamil intellectuals that strive to or call humans to end the impoverished people’s hunger. Finally, this epic stresses that the only way to be closer to God is by helping end the hunger of those in poverty.

 ஆய்வுச்சுருக்கம்

இக்கட்டுரை மணிமேகலைக் காப்பியத்தில் சுட்டப்படும் பசிப்பிணி குறித்து ஆழ்ந்து நோக்கும் வகையில் அமைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. உலகெங்கிலும் கிட்டத்தட்ட அனைத்து நாடுகளும் எதிர்கொள்ளும் உலகளாவிய பிரச்சினை பசியாகும். பசி என்பது போக்கப்பட வேண்டிய நோயாக மணிமேகலை சுட்டுகிறது. தொடர்ந்து, இப்பிணியின் கொடுமைகளையும் மணிமேகலை பேசுகின்றது. எனவே, பசிப்பிணியைப் போக்கும் எவரையும் தெய்வமாகப் போற்றும் நிலையும் உண்டு. மணிமேகலை காவியம், ஏழை உடல் குறையுடையோர் போன்றோரின் பசிப்பிணியைப் போக்குதலை உலக மக்கள் அனைவருக்கும் வலியுறுத்துகின்றது.  இக்கருத்தை இக்காவியம், மணிமேகலை ஆபுத்திரன் ஆகிய கதாபாத்திரங்களின் வழி செயல்படுத்துகிறது. வறுமையில் உள்ளவர்களின் பசிக்கு முடிவுகட்டுவதற்காக இருவரும் தங்கள் வாழ்வை அர்ப்பணித்தனர். பசியால் வாடும்  ஒரு மனிதர் தனது மனநலத்தை இழந்துவிடுவார். எனவே அவர் தனது பசியைப் போக்கிக்கொள்ளும் முயற்சியில் சமூகப் பிரச்சனைகளுக்கு ஆளாக நேரிடும். இப்பிரச்சனையைக் களையும் நோக்கில் மணிமேகலை கைதிகளின் பசிப்பிணியைப் போக்கும் முயற்சியில் ஈடுபட்டாள். பசிப்பிணியால் கட்டுண்டிருப்பவர்களை மணிமேகலை ஆன்மீகச் சிந்தனைபால் திருப்பினாள். புகார் நகரில் இருந்த சிறைச்சாலைகளையெல்லாம் அவள் பொது மடங்களாக மாற்றினாள். கைதிகளின் வாழ்க்கையை அவள் மாற்றியமைத்தாள். இது தவிற, ஏழைகளின் பசிப்பிணியைப் போக்கும் தமிழ்ச் சான்றோர்களைப் பற்றியும் இக்கட்டுரை பேசுகிறது. இறுதியாக, ஏழ்மையை ஒழித்து பசிப்பிணியைப் போக்குவதே, இறையை அடையும் வழியாக இக்காவியம் சுட்டுகிறது.
